Although there are many amazing programs that use Alignment Science, let’s examine the science behind the programs:

Alignment Science is about restoring balance physically, mentally and emotionally.  This unique yet deeply transformational practice utilizes (nine) specific breathing techniques, precise internal leverage and uncommon, yet simplistic postures to align the body and restore balance.  With regular practice of the breathing techniques alone one can release constriction of all sorts to become aligned, aware and balanced on all levels.

Alignment Science starts with the breath –

Although there are nine specific breathing techniques in the system of Alignment Science the starting point is a technique called the expansive breath coupled with standing in alignment. How the body responds to this initial step determines what comes next.

When injury or other posture issues are present, the next step is releasing the body. This is accomplished with five specific techniques:


  • Releasing the hips

  • releasing the thighs

  • releasing the knees

  • releasing the ribcage

  • releasing the shoulder girdle


Although releasing the body has therapeutic benefits that are effective for specific conditions of just about any origin, the application is universal.  The body is treated as a whole.  To get a better understanding of this idea, you could think of physical therapy being used to rehabilitate a knee.

Modern physical therapy would treat a knee injury with specific movements that relate to where there is damage.  In the system of Alignment Science the alignment of the body overall is is the primary focus.  When injury or discomfort shows up in the knee that does not necessarily indicate the knee is the cause.  How the body is aligned (static and moving) often has a lot to do with how force is distributed and where, in turn, injuries show up.

When the body is releasing, although the process is accomplished with simplistic physical movements, various thoughts and emotions can also present themselves as part of the process.  If you subscribe to the idea that the body stores emotional traumas then it is easier to understand how releasing the body can facilitate emotional release too.  It is important to understand that emotional release is random and not necessarily part of the process, although it does frequently occur.

When tensions are released that cause the body to become collapsed, or move through life not aligned, alignment often naturally shows up.  In training sessions this concept is explored in much greater detail.

Releasing the body is part of the journey towards alignment.  Alignment, however is much greater than something simply practiced in a standing position.  With every move you make, you are either aligned, which also means your body lines (bio-meridians) are open or you are collapsed, with your body lines turned in.  Learning how to move in alignment is simple and a critical part of alignment science.

What has been described thus far generally makes up the first part of alignment science and is shared in the first 10 training sessions.  To summarize, this includes:


  • Standing in alignment

  • moving in alignment

  • the expansive breath

  • releasing the hips

  • releasing the thighs

  • releasing the knees

  • releasing the ribcage

  • releasing the shoulder girdle

This basic Alignment Science knowledge has been used as an integrative therapeutic modality for even severe injury and conditions of all sorts. Students and practitioners alike are interested in continuing the process of balance with alignment science beyond a basic level.

Beyond the basic level Alignment Science transforms into a practice of balance, flexibility and strength. This is accomplished using principles of alignment, internal leverage points and specific breathing techniques.  These techniques, nine in total are presented in Level 1 Alignment Science.  Paired off into groupings of three these techniques include:


  • The Expansive Breath

  • Deep Core Breathing

  • Transitional Breath

  • Push/Pull One

  • Xyphoid Breathing

  • Push Pull Two

  • Flo-Breath

  • Power Expansive Breath

  • Power Deep Core Breathing
